THE INSPIRATION

The original image is from my trip to Berlin in the fall of 2019. The collage was made for my trip to Europe this past summer in 2022 in hopes of connecting the garment to the place I was going. The photos above show my friends, classmates, and myself wearing the garment while we traveled throughout Europe attending the Venice Biennale, Documenta 15, and exploring Berlin. I found the composition of the image striking and the anti-capitalist message works with my project as I don’t sell these shirts but wear them myself, lend them to friends, or in some cases, give them away. Ultimately, hours of cutting and sewing were put in to reproduce a one-second act of performative vandalism across temporary public works signage.
