Unraveled Moments
NO. 5

THE INSPIRATION
This shirt was the original base for No. 4’s collage. I hand dyed the shirt with indigo, intending to create a dramatic contrast with the orange collage. However, the dying created a textured pattern and the day before leaving for Europe, I decided that there was too much going on and frantically tried to figure out how to finish it. Choosing the white hooded shirt as the new base, I quickly threw together a digital negative of the original photo and printed it on transparency paper that I luckily had in my studio–setting to work on a new cyanotype print.
I created an exposure box with my friend’s UV light, a box I found in the hallway, and all of the books I could find in my studio. Finally, with No. 4 finished, I looked back to the blue dyed shirt I had previously rejected. I was inspired to attach the remnants of my exposure time tests for No. 4 as the new centerpiece for No. 5. My friend then wore this shirt most places we went in Europe, while I wore No. 4, allowing both shirts to be in conversation with each other throughout.
