Unraveled Moments

THE INSPIRATION
My more recent work looks at images that are still out of balance, but with a greater focus on the absurdity and humor that can be found in the juxtaposition of images and objects. A common theme across many are signs and symbols that are not quite communicating, like this message posted outside on ripped corrugated cardboard. A semiotics lens allows me to discover slightly off-kilter aspects and reveal a deeper inability for us to communicate. In my images, people and institutions post signs with meanings that are incongruous, performative, or pointless. By recreating these scenes in obsessive detail with fabric, I heighten the absurdity of these compositions. By making them wearable, I allow the pieces to exist outside of the context from which they first appeared and had some meaning, and with the images sewn onto comfortable everyday clothing they are shared outside of a gallery.
